James started styling 20 years ago for fun for his friends and family, dubbing him the kitchen cosmetologist. He truly began to enjoy this but decided to expand his knowledge. He then applied for a degree in massage Therapy. He did well and graduated in 2011, unfortunately he found he wasn’t able to do massage full time. He wanted to do more so he tried his hand at a variety of occupations. He enjoyed some of them but couldn’t quite find his niche. His mind kept returning to cutting, styling and massage.

So in 2013 he made the decision to go to hair school. He attended Regency Beauty Institute in Roanoke. At the time Regency was the main cosmetology school in the area. James graduated with flying colors in 2014. Directly after graduating, he was hired on at JCPenney, Tanglewood doing men and women’s hair. After a year in a full salon, he felt his forte lied in men’s hair-styling. He made the move to Sportsclips and stayed on for 4 and a half years focusing solely on male clients.

With his education and experience James felt it was time to step out on his own. Star City Styles Men’s Salon & Day Spa was born! By opening his own shop he was able to integrate all of his skills offering haircuts, color, hair regrowth options, massage, waxing, pedicures, facials, and charcoal masks. He continues to learn new techniques and try new products. Being not only the stylist but the owner as well, his goal is to treat every customer to their needs affordably. Star City Styles offers high end service at reasonable pricing.
